Leicester Walking Club Retain Team Double

Leicester Walking Club retained both the men's and women's team titles at the Jim Sharlott 10Km Open walks on 1 st September 2007.

Nuneaton's Andy Penn, a commonwealth games competitor last year, easily won the men's race in a time of 48:03 easily beating last year's winner Mark William's who finished second in 48:48. Third place went to last year's silver medallist Nick Silvester in 49:09. Chris Berwick was the first local man home in seventh place and led the Leicester team home to victory. Mark Wall, Colin Vesty and Dennis Myers packed in closely in twelfth, thirteen and fourteenth places to secure the title.

Tonbridge's Dianne Bradley took the women's title ahead of Leicester's Fiona McGorum and Jill Eve. With Sue Rey finishing ninth, Leicester retained the ladies team title.

In the junior races, Leicester 's Jasmin Nicholls showed fine style to win the under 13 girl's 2Km race with a new personal best time of 12:27. Chris Vesty finished third in the under 15 boy's 3Km also with a new personal best time of 17:32. Blaby's promising new star Emma Achurch was the victor in the under 11's development race with a very promising performance just dipping under the six minutes barrier in 5:55.
